When it comes to my game time, I’ve been completely consumed by Nioh as of late. Until Dark Souls, I had no idea that I wanted my 3rd person action games to work me over like a side of beef. Nioh’s definitely got that going on, but it’s all coming to a close for Tony and me. Right before the weekend, we finished William’s quest to reunite with his Celtic guardian spirit Saoirse. And even though the story feels wrapped up nicely and credits have scrolled by, more quests have popped up on the map.

Most of these seem to be challenges meant to push players harder than ever before. Several of them consist only of an arena with two bosses that must be faced at once. While I tried my best to win fair and square, I could not defeat the devilish quests. I spent portions of Saturday and Sunday trying to gear up for these battles and even tried an exploit build. Alas, even this failed me, as most abusable exploits have been nerfed in recent patches.

My comrade-in-arms Tony will join me one last time this evening to face our overwhelming foes (not that we can actually co-op in these missions). I’m intent on trying several new character builds before I throw in the towel. If we cannot prevail, however, it will be time to consider Nioh concluded and move on to other things. One mustn’t forget that we do all this for fun.
